Submission Guidelines
How to Submit
Send up to three poems in a single submission.
Submit via our Duosuma portal: Submit here
There is a £3 submission fee to help with admin and production costs.
If you cannot afford the fee, email max@aftershockreview.com — no explanation required.
We may close submissions early once our quota is filled.
We aim to respond within 8–12 weeks. Please don’t chase unless it’s been longer.

Your poem being published in print and digital editions of The Aftershock Review

Providing a short voice note reading of your poem or granting permission for Aftershock to read it on your behalf

Subscribing
Subscribing is not a requirement, but it helps.
This project is grassroots — built from real lives and real labour. Every subscription funds more poetry, more space, and more voices.

Editorial Submission Terms

These terms explain your rights and ours when you submit work to The Aftershock Review.
1. Submission Eligibility
You confirm that your submission is your original work and does not infringe the rights of any third party.
2. Submission Process
We may charge a submission fee to support admin and production costs. If you cannot afford the fee, you may contact us to request a free submission route.
3. Editorial Decisions
All editorial decisions are final. We are unable to enter into correspondence about individual decisions.
4. Rights Granted on Acceptance
On acceptance, you grant The Aftershock Review non-exclusive rights to:

Publish your work in print and digital formats

Publish your work on Substack and related Aftershock platforms

Share excerpts for promotional purposes

Archive your work indefinitely as part of the Aftershock catalogue

5. Retained Rights
You retain full copyright in your work. You may publish it elsewhere, subject only to any clearly stated exclusivity period agreed at the time of acceptance.

6. Attribution and Credit
Your work will be credited under the name you provide.

7. Withdrawal and Editorial Safeguards

Contributors may withdraw work before acceptance by notifying us in writing.

After acceptance, withdrawal by the contributor is subject to editorial agreement and production schedules.

The Aftershock Review reserves the right to withdraw accepted work prior to publication in exceptional circumstances, including legal, ethical, safeguarding, or serious editorial concerns.

Where work or audio is published on Substack, Substack’s own terms and policies also apply.
